You can also reffer to other SIP related RFC's such as rfc3665 (Basic call flow) another good resource would be http://www.voip-info.org/wiki-Open+Source+VOIP+Software - http://www.voip-info.org/wiki-Open+Source+VOIP+Software you will find many open source tools and implimentations of SIP there...
