TestDirector guides you through three main phases of the testing process:
Planning Tests.
Develop a test plan and create tests. This includes defining goals and
strategy, designing tests, automating tests where beneficial, and
analyzing the plan.
Running Tests. Execute the tests created in the Planning Tests phase, and analyze the test results.
Tracking Defects.
Monitor software quality. This includes reporting defects, determining
repair priorities, assigning tasks, and tracking repair progress. To
help you accomplish these tasks, TestDirector includes 3 main views:
• Plan Tests : Effective testing begins with a test plan. To create a test plan:
Define your testing goals and divide your application into manageable modules or functions to be tested.
Determine the types of tests you need for each module.
Create test steps that describe the test operations, the points to check, and the expected outcome of each test.
Decide
whether to perform each test manually or to automate it. You can
automate your tests with WinRunner, Mercury Interactive’s automated GUI
testing tool.
Generate TestDirector reports and graphs to assist in analyzing test planning data. Visualizing
the Test Plan A test plan tree enables you to organize and display your
tests hierarchically, according to your testing requirements. Your tree
can include several types of tests:
Manual test scripts WinRunner test scripts Batch of WinRunner test scripts Visual API test scripts LoadRunner scenario scripts and Vuser scripts
