Odds are your company can or should supply you with the most critical documents - right? These documents should describe what the software is supposed to do. Quite simply, one would take those documents and go off and develop tests that: 1. Proves it does what it is supposed to do, and 2. Shows where it might be doing something it is not supposed to do.
