u can write test cases but for that u hav 2 prepare some fixed format,but keep in mind this format is generalized,so this can be vary according to the companies, i m giving u one standard form which i m following now days in my project.
Test Case-ID Test Type  Pre-Conditions Test-case Description  Test-Conditions   Test Data Set   Execution Steps  Expected Results  Actual Results  Test Results(Pass/Fail) ;these are the columns u hav 2 prepare

Programmers are expected to write unit and functional test code first.
