Job Description
PRIORITIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
The Director of Product Validation will lead the Bangalore Software Design
Centre's testing of Developed platforms ,software & service tools. One of the
key challenges for the incumbent will be to establish and drive Product
Qualification strategy, direction and process through the organization.
The Quality Engineering (QE) function at the SDC is currently Tactical
project-execution focused and hence, there is a need to transition to a more
product-engineering focused strategic approach. The Director will be required to
drive this mindset change in the organization. In next two years, QE vision is
to expand the capability towards becoming a Center Of Excellence in Product
Quality Engineering.
Very importantly, the Director will serve as a member of the worldwide Product
Quality Council & Group leadership team at QE-Blr.
The priorities for the role include:
Strategic involvement: As part of driving the QE function
strategically, the Director will need to develop and attend planning sessions to
further build on strategic business plans for the QE organization. He/she will
also be responsible for developing high-level tests strategy and preliminary
test project scope, sub-system and product test of new platforms, or software.
In addition, the position will also be accountable for Product Qualification,
System Compatibility and Qualification Test of new or existing platforms, with
new or existing software (engineering development process/planning phase).
Preparing and operating within resource capacity plans and budget will also fall
under the incumbent's purview.
Ownership of the functional organization: The Director holds a
critical management role in the SDC responsible for the complete test lifecycle
of all internally and externally developed Application software and platform
products. The Director will be required to manage the Product Test Process and
evaluate the same to determine if it meets the needs of the business and make
adjustments accordingly. He/she will also manage the Test Resources and plan
resource requirements and execution in order to implement processes. In-depth
knowledge of testing processes and methodologies and involvement in end-to-end
functional testing of Application systems is important.
Leadership: One of the important human capital challenges for
the Director will be to ensure that the company's key human resources have the
bandwidth and the capability to meet the demands of a growing organization in a
competitive environment. He/she will need to develop direct reports including
designing and overseeing job & career development plans for them including
formal and on the job training opportunities to apply newly attained skills. A
critical part of his/her role will be to provide leadership development and
guidance for a management team of 5+ managers, manage talent through strong
succession planning, management training and effectiveness, and build diversity
and bench strength at all levels. Very importantly, the Director would need to
ensure that the right people are in the right positions and conduct timely
reviews to identify and bridge gaps in performance (if any). He/she should be an
inspiring leader who leads by example to infuse a strong performance orientation
in his/her team and motivates them to deliver 'stretch' targets.
Collaborate and effectively manage partnerships: It will be
important for the Director to partner with his/her peers to contribute to the
management of programs through the review processes. The management system of
reviews includes executive strategy, executive planning, executive program
review, executive quality review, engineering reviews, and detailed project or
feature reviews. On the other hand, externally, the incumbent will need to
Build, develop and nurture partnerships with Product Engineering, Program
Management Teams. Current alliances include OSP i.e contract resource providers
, PMO, TA,HR,L & D and Finance Dept among many others.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:
The position will report directly to The Senior Director of Quality Engineering
and functionally to the Senior Director of Product Engineering or Group Test
Director based in Sunnyvale, California.
Desired Profile
CANDIDATE SPECIFICATIONS:
The candidate should possess 17+ years of relevant industry experience with key
strengths in testing methodology, engineering, process development and
automation. The individual in this role need not be a technical 'expert' in
software testing but should possesses a fair understanding of testing / systems
validation / product development environment. He/she should ideally be a
seasoned leader of technical people and must possess the necessary operational
skills and the technical understanding to empathize with the challenges on the
ground.
Competencies
Solid understanding of quality in the context of 'products' and more
specifically 'platform' products. Should have worked in 'product' development
companies and have demonstrated business impact in the quality engineering
function at product companies.

opportunities to exceed goals.
Thought Leadership in the QE discipline, e.g. in areas in such as test
automation, process improvement, etc. Should know the difference between

decisions and plans. Follows up on performance; reviews and mentors progress

Technical Knowledge Has a strong functional understanding of the testing domain,
has led the development and implementation of test architectures and processes,
as well as led input into debugging and fault correction..
