Hi,
Bugs are inevitable. While planning or estimating it's difficult to predict the number of bugs. Can I estimate how much time on an average a developer would take to fix a defect? Are there any industry figures available for the same? Knowing the Bug fixing effort will help me to plan buffer time accordingly or compare X project's bug fix rate with some benchmark value. You can develop estimates by doing an analysis on previous projects.
IMO a better way is to get SLA (service level agreements) set for the project for defect resolution, it is usually best to do this using different time frames for the Severity. If you do this without an SLA you take the risk of alienating developers and it may look like you are gathering and publishing information to make the developers on your team look bad. |
