Topic: Definition for Quality Control

I'm writing a tech document discussing our IT Policies and Procedures
and have a section on quality control and am looking for a good
overview description/definition of Quality Control as it pertains to
software development efforts. Can someone advise me where I can locate
this? I am brand new to this site, so, if it is here somewhere, I've
not drilled down far enough to locate it.
