Terminology is an interesting thing. The meaning can vary from
individual to individual. When I, personally, say "ad hoc", I mean
unscripted, unplanned testing done with little or no preparation. It
doesn't mean "unintelligent", however.
I'm not sure Glenford Myers "despised" adhoc testing. He did, however, feel it was less effective. So do I. That's based on my personal experience, not a book. I've been taking metrics for a lot of years; nothing has yet occurred to change my (personal) opinion that structured testing (note - I'm just saying "structured"; not specifying the type of structure) finds 90% of all error and everything else finds about 10%.
