Just like if you were building a computer for home.

The computer components are the hardware cost (monitor, CPU, GPUitself, Case, Keyboard, etc...)

software is a seperate expense (Windows, MAC, Games, Office Software, etc...)

In business terms you usually have server cost as hardware, and applications and systems as software.
