What is Single Sign On?

Single Sign On
The ability for users to log on once to a network and be able to access all authorized resources within the enterprise. A single sign-on program accepts the user's name and password and automatically logs on to all appropriate servers. Single sign-on services such as Microsoft's Passport are increasingly being used for Web sites.

Single sign-on (SSO) is a specialized form of software authentication that enables a user to authenticate once and gain access to the resources of multiple software systems.

Many free and commercial SSO or reduced sign-on solutions are currently available.
